WWE SummerSlam 2026 took place across two nights at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Night One gave fans major title matches, returning legends and a violent main event. Night Two leaned much more heavily into surprises, championship changes and emotional moments.
The result was a weekend that wrestling fans enjoyed overall, although the online reaction made one thing clear.
Night Two was the night most people remembered.

Night One began with Liv Morgan defending the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY.
Morgan retained after interference from Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez helped turn the match in her favour. Fans generally praised the wrestling itself, but the result and outside involvement divided opinion. Some were pleased that Liv’s championship run continued. Others felt IYO’s Queen of the Ring victory should have led to a cleaner or more important moment at SummerSlam.
That reaction became a theme throughout Night One.
People often liked the matches, but they were less convinced by some of the decisions surrounding them.
The six man tag match was entertaining, but the story remained complicated
LA Knight, Solo Sikoa and Royce Keys defeated Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu.
The finish came after Solo struck Jimmy with the Samoan Spike, allowing LA Knight to hit Jey with the BFT and secure the victory.
Fans enjoyed the amount of personality in the match, particularly Solo joining in with the YEET celebration and the continuing problems inside the extended Bloodline story.
However, the discussion was not simply about the winners.
Much of it focused on where each person goes next.
Was Solo truly moving away from his family?
Would Royce Keys become a bigger part of the Bloodline story?
Was LA Knight finally heading towards another major championship programme?

Nick Aldis received one of the warmest reactions of the night
Gunther defeated Nick Aldis by submission in Aldis’s first WWE match.
Aldis entered to “Morning Glory” by Oasis and received a large reaction from the Minneapolis crowd. After losing, he was joined in the ring by his wife, Mickie James, and their son.
This was one of those occasions where losing did not make someone feel like a loser.
Fans praised Aldis for looking believable against Gunther and appreciated that the match did not treat him like an authority figure who had suddenly forgotten how to wrestle.
The main complaint was simple.
People wanted more time.
That criticism appeared across the weekend. Fans liked many of the matches, but repeatedly felt that major moments were being asked to fit into smaller spaces because of advertising, sponsorships and the size of the card.
The Bella Twins turned on Paige
Fatal Influence defeated Paige and The Bella Twins in the six woman tag match.
After Jacy Jayne pinned Paige, Nikki and Brie Bella attacked their own partner.
The turn created surprise, but community reaction was mixed.
Some fans enjoyed the idea of the Bellas returning with a more aggressive direction. Others felt the match itself was mainly being used to reach the betrayal and did not give the six women enough time to create a memorable contest.

Randy Orton changed the WWE Championship match
CM Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes.

This finish generated more discussion than most of the match.

Fans agreed on the importance of the result.
Oba was treated like a genuine top star, survived one of WWE’s most dangerous opponents and received a very public endorsement from Brock.
The disagreement was about the match itself.
Some viewers loved the simple monster fight and saw it as a successful passing of the torch.
Others expected much more violence from a Hell in a Cell match between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi. Complaints focused on the limited use of the cage, the lack of blood and a feeling that the match never became as brutal as the stipulation suggested.

Night Two opened with what was originally expected to be Finn Bálor against Sami Zayn.
Gunther was added to the match.
Then Kevin Owens returned after seventeen months away and was added as the fourth competitor.
Owens won the match and became the number one contender to CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship.
The community reaction was immediate and emotional.
Many fans had feared Owens might never wrestle again because of his neck injury. His music produced genuine shock, and comments quickly moved from surprise to relief that he was healthy enough to return.
Some Finn Bálor supporters were disappointed that he once again failed to win a major opportunity. Even so, the dominant feeling was happiness for Owens. Fans described shouting at their screens, becoming emotional and feeling that the return had already made the entire night worthwhile.
This was probably SummerSlam’s most successful surprise because it created more than shock.
It created relief.
Baron Corbin’s comeback was popular, even if the result surprised people
Baron Corbin returned to WWE competition and defeated Trick Williams to win the United States Championship.
The result surprised many fans because Trick had been presented as an important champion.
But Corbin’s return received a positive response, particularly from viewers who felt he had become underappreciated before leaving WWE.
There was also plenty of classic wrestling fan behaviour around his entrance music, with some people more upset about the choice of theme than the title change itself.
The wider reaction suggested that absence had helped Corbin.
Fans who may not have appreciated him during earlier runs were suddenly pleased to see him again.
Chelsea Green produced one of the loudest reactions of the weekend
Chelsea Green defeated Tiffany Stratton, Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill and Lash Legend in a ladder match to become the Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
Green won while hanging upside down near the bottom of the ladder, pulling herself upwards and retrieving the championship.
Her victory was one of the most celebrated results of SummerSlam.
Fans have watched Chelsea lose, embarrass herself and remain entertaining regardless of how she is booked. That history made the win feel earned.
One Reddit user at the event described it as possibly the biggest crowd reaction of the entire weekend. The post show discussion repeatedly celebrated Chelsea even among people who had concerns about the wider direction of the women’s division.
There was some disagreement about whether this was the right time to place the championship on her, but very little disagreement about her popularity.

Danhausen versus Dominik Mysterio was exactly as strange as promised
Danhausen defeated Dominik Mysterio in a Human Monies on a Pole Match.
JD McDonagh, the Minihausens and Joe Hendry all became involved before Danhausen retrieved the money and won.
This was not treated by fans as a serious athletic contest.
It was treated as comedy.
Some viewers loved the ridiculousness and enjoyed seeing WWE fully commit to Danhausen’s strange character. Others found it too silly for one of the company’s biggest events.

Chad Gable defeated Penta by submission to win the Intercontinental Championship in his home state.

The match itself was praised, although some believed it deserved more time.
